It is with sadness that we announce the March 18th passing of Eileen Smith, former Real Estate Foundation governor.

Eileen was appointed by the Real Estate Council of British Columbia in 2008 and served five years on the Foundation’s board, including one term as chair and two terms as vice-chair. During her time on the board, Eileen was an active, engaged and dedicated governor, who took great interest in the Foundation’s work to advance sustainable land use and real estate practices. Eileen often said that her work at the Real Estate Foundation was a great learning curve, and the most challenging and fulfilling work of her career.

“Eileen loved to help and connect people,” said Jack Wong, Foundation CEO. “She was not afraid to ask the tough questions and wanted to ensure positive results to benefit others. She will be greatly missed by all of us at the Real Estate Foundation.”

Eileen had over 40 years’ experience in real estate, including managing a large real estate brokerage firm of 200 sales associates, and serving on several boards. Her thorough knowledge of the real estate industry, good governance and consensus building were an asset to the Foundation’s board.

Her colleagues recently recognized her many contributions by awarding her the Professional Excellence Award and Honorary Board Membership in Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver; both are testaments to her work ethic and voluntary service in the profession and the community.

For her 70th birthday in February, we were asked to offer three words describing Eileen for a memory book. Our team chose the words “tenacious, dedicated and stylish.” That is how we will remember her.
