A report released today by the Real Estate Foundation of BC found that local food leaders express a strong desire for a regional vision for a food system that includes mentorship of new farmers, farmland protection and improved access to local food.
Among the province-wide priorities for action:
- Increase public knowledge about local food systems
- Expand local infrastructure for food processing, storage and distribution
- Support established and new farmers
- Protect access to foodlands and fresh water
The report, Local Food Futures for British Columbia, highlights the results of six regional dialogues held around the province to convene local food leaders and identify priorities for action.
