Connecting to Local Food

There’s a lot more to being a grantmaker than just giving away money.

In addition to reviewing and researching grant applications, our staff and board undertake various activities to build knowledge and networks that inform the Foundation’s grants strategy. We regularly connect with funders and leaders in various fields to learn about and discuss needs, trends and happenings that relate to our work.

In late August, we hosted the Foundation-led Sustainable Food Systems Working Group at our offices. At this meeting, representatives from BC’s Agricultural Land Commission met with the group to talk about the food systems landscape in BC and upcoming activities in the “food arena.”

This is just one way we build our own and others’ capacity so we all can be more effective at what we do to advance sustainable land use practices in British Columbia.

Sustainable Food Systems is one of our priority granting areas. During the past two-and-a-half years, we have awarded 29 grants totalling nearly $850,000 in this focus area.
