General Grants: Applications Open in January 2026
Need funding for a project that will help advance sustainability, equity, and social justice in land use practices in BC?
On January 6, 2026, the Real Estate Foundation of BC (REFBC) will begin accepting applications for General Grants. Applications are due February 5, 2026.
This will be our only General Grants intake in 2026. Please share this funding opportunity with any organizations that might be interested.
On January 13 and 15, 2026, we’re hosting webinars for General Grants applicants. Before you apply, we encourage you to attend!
What follows is a quick (five Ws and one H) introduction to our General Grants stream.
Who can apply?
General Grants can fund projects led by First Nations, non-profits, and other organizations working on projects relating to land use or real estate in BC.
Organizations eligible to apply for funding:
- First Nations
- Charities and societies
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Universities and colleges
- Trade associations
- Local and regional governments
- Community contribution companies (C3s)
We prioritize grants to Indigenous-led organizations. Last year, 74% of our overall grant funding went to Indigenous-led organizations.
We do not accept applications from individuals or for-profit companies.
What do we fund?
REFBC makes grants to support projects that advance sustainability, equity, and social justice in relation to land use practices in BC.
Our mandate is to support law and policy reform, applied research, community engagement, professional education, and public education.
We have five priorities:
- Land Use
- Fresh Water
- Built Environments
- Food Sovereignty
- Real Estate Profession
More and more, REFBC-funded projects are upholding or advancing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). We have committed to aligning our grantmaking with UNDRIP, as outlined in our plan, Transformative Actions for UNDRIP Advancement.
We are particularly interested in projects that advance justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility — by and for racialized and equity-deserving communities.
Make sure to review our Guide to Funding Priorities for details.
To see what we’ve previously funded, browse our Grantee Projects directory.
When is the application deadline?
Applications are due Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Subscribe for deadline alerts.
General Grants are typically awarded in June and September.
Where must projects be based?
Projects must be based in BC.
We fund projects in every region of the province — and, therefore, in the territories of many First Nations.
Why does REFBC give grants?
Our vision is a healthy environment that supports thriving, resilient, liveable communities from one generation to the next.
Accordingly, we support projects that advance sustainability, equity, and social justice in land use practices in BC.
We are committed to supporting reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and working in partnership with First Nations.
How can organizations apply?
Applications are submitted through an online form, which we make available once the intake opens.
A Word template is available to help applicants draft responses prior to submission.
If the online form presents an accessibility barrier for you, please contact us prior to the application deadline to make alternative arrangements.
