Seeking funding for a project that advances sustainable, equitable, and socially just land use in BC?

The Real Estate Foundation of BC (REFBC) is now accepting applications for General Grants. Applications are due on February 7, 2024.

This will be our only General Grants intake in 2024. Please share this opportunity with any organizations in your network that might be interested!

What follows is a quick (five Ws and one H) intro to our General Grants stream. For detailed information, see the REFBC Grants page.

Who can apply?

Any non-profit organization or community contribution company (C3) working on land use or real estate issues in BC is eligible to apply. For our purposes, non-profits include:

  • First Nations
  • Charities and societies
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
  • Universities and colleges
  • Trade associations
  • Local and regional governments

We particularly encourage applications from Indigenous-led organizations.

We do not accept applications from individuals or for-profit companies.

What do we fund?

REFBC grants support law and policy reform, applied research, community engagement, and professional and public education in five priority areas:

  • Land Use
  • Fresh Water
  • Built Environments
  • Food Sovereignty
  • Real Estate Profession
Guide to REFBC's Funding Priorities

In our grantmaking, we are committed to upholding and advancing implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). It is important for us to prioritize projects that support justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Please review our Guide to Funding Priorities for details. Browse our Grantee Projects directory to see what we’ve previously funded.

When is the application deadline?

Applications are due on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 5 p.m. PST. Subscribe for deadline alerts!

Where must projects be based?

Projects must be based in BC. We fund projects in every region of the province.

Why does REFBC give grants?

Our vision is a healthy environment that supports thriving, resilient, liveable communities from one generation to the next. Accordingly, we fund projects that advance sustainable, equitable, and socially just land use and real estate practices in BC.

How can non-profits apply?

Applications are submitted through an online form. A Word template is available to help applicants draft their responses prior to submission.

However, we recognize that digital access and Internet connectivity are not universal. If completing an online written application presents a barrier, please contact us at grants@refbc.ca, prior to the application deadline, to make alternative arrangements.

More questions?

Check out the Questions & Answers section of our REFBC Grants page for much more information.
