Earlier this week, the Real Estate Foundation of BC joined other Canadian philanthropic organizations in signing the Declaration of Action, which commits signatories to supporting the vision of Aboriginal peoples, to building a fairer and more just country, and to the recommendations and findings laid out by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
As a philanthropic organization focused on sustainable land use, REFBC recognizes that First Nations peoples have served as caretakers of our land for generations and have deep knowledge and traditions on the use and care of land and resources. First Nations communities need to have a leadership role in conversations and decisions on how we all manage our shared land and water.
The Declaration of Action was prepared by a group of philanthropic organizations – Inspirit Foundation, The Circle on Philanthropy and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada, Community Foundations of Canada, Philanthropic Foundations Canada, and The Counselling Foundation of Canada – following the conclusion of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s activities.
The Declaration and full signatory list are available on The Circle on Philanthropy and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada’s website. To date, 48 organizations have signed the Declaration.
