UNDRIP & REFBC

The Real Estate Foundation of BC works in the territories of First Nations across what is referred to as “British Columbia.” REFBC is committed to working in partnership with First Nations and supporting reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

Taking steps to uphold the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) is central to this commitment. We invite you to learn about our UNDRIP-related initiatives and to join us on our journey of learning and action.

Transformative Actions for UNDRIP Advancement

Transformative Actions for UNDRIP Advancement (TAUA) is a report prepared by UNDRIP Fellow Tara Marsden/Naxginkw for REFBC. The report outlines how UNDRIP relates to REFBC’s work and identifies 50 actions in support of UNDRIP implementation for the Foundation to undertake.

At REFBC, we are deeply committed to the Transformative Actions outlined in this report. With Tara’s guidance, we have been able to engage with external knowledge-holders, advisors, and leaders, whose input is helping inform REFBC’s journey forward. We thank all who have joined us in conversations, responded to surveys, and offered us constructive feedback, which we will continue to seek out.

UNDRIP Fellowship

In 2022, REFBC and Hlimoo Sustainable Solutions created and co-designed the Foundation’s UNDRIP Fellowship.

As the first REFBC UNDRIP Fellow, Tara Marsden/Naxginkw delivers education and training to staff and Governors, gives presentations at events, provides advice on grantmaking, and leads the development of UNDRIP-related policies at REFBC.

Tara Marsden

“Advancing UNDRIP and upholding Indigenous rights is the responsibility of every citizen, not only government. As a funder, the Real Estate Foundation of BC is in a unique role to be a part of critical change in how funding supports Indigenous self-determination.”
